2003-09-09 - 9:58 p.m. Sup. We are about 5 days deep into recording right now. The bulk of the basic tracks are done. We did basic tracks for about 12 songs and there are about 4 more left to go (plus some noise tweener stuff and what not that we also plan to record). If we are cool with everything that we have done thus far, we should be starting the vocals and other overdubs in about a week and a half. For all of you out there that hope to 1 day record an album in your basement with minimal knowledge on how to record an album in your basement I've assembled a few tips 1-Turn the de-humidifier off. Doesn't seem like a big thing but I'm guessing this helps. I mean sure the place will be dry but it is quite a noisy machine. We did a full night before we realized this was on. It didn't really do any damge to the take so I guess we were lucky 2-Stupid songs take the longest. After we did 2 fairly straight forward songs last week,we ended up trying to smack "Barney" out of the way at the end of the night. We did that retarded song like 6 times. We did have a keeper by the end of the night but I'm guessing it will need to be redone 3-Don't forget the Bugle In our worst night thus far (Sunday) we did bad take after bad take of "Don Knotts". Later that night I realized that we were forgeting the bugle intro that we have been doing on that song in the live show. Tried it again with that and came up with a pretty solid take. 4-Computers will crash when you are ready to go We were all set to smack out "Soda Pretzel" when the computer crashed hardcore. I'm guessing it was more Cool Edit than the computer but still, we ended the night a little earlier than needed. More recording tips coming up as the learning process continues.
